Reading BINGO
Welcome to Reading BINGO. This is a fun activity to get students excited about reading various genres. Each quarter, students will need to read at least 5 books of a different genre and complete a writing assignment that goes along with the genre. Below, students may click the link that corresponds to the genre of the book they read.

You will see I ask students for a 1 paragraph summary using "someone, wanted, but, so, then" format. This is a simple way for students to remember to only include what was important to the plot. (There is an alternate format for nonfiction). This is a summarizing strategy I picked up from Kathy Bumgardner and Oxford Elementary School.
Ex. Cinderella (someone) wanted to go to the ball, but her wicked stepmother would not allow her to go. So her magical fairy godmother arrived bringing her clothes to wear. Then Cinderella was able to go to the ball. She met the prince and they fell in love; living happily ever after.
